POVERTY AND THE PARENTAL NEGLIGENCE IN NIGERIA

CHILD ABUSE A CASE TO TAKE SERIOUS

Nigeria is blessed
Poverty is the order of the day
Parental abuse is speeding fast
Negligence the order of the day

I was opportuned to travel this past few days and I must confess the experience was really bad based on what I saw along the road.
I travel a lot and I've seen a lot happen on the high way. Go to the east and see young boys hustle on the high way; come to Ife express at the adjacent of Oodua University and see young guys and girls hustle. Visit Iloko Ijesha right in front of Olapade Agoro Business School and see young boys and girls hustle to feed their parents. Yes, I mean to feed their parents and not otherwise

I was on my way to Ado Ekiti the Ekiti state capital and at Iloko Ijesha I was sad interviewing a young girl of about 5 or 6 years. The bus I was in broke down and I was taken aback when the young girl in question came to me to market bitter kola.
I asked her where her parents were and she said home, her brothers also were relaxing at home. Still confused, I asked her if she was staying with someone or really living with her parents which she affirmed to the latter

Going through memory lane I remember the formative years of Ekiti state existence when I will hear parents says to their friends "wa lo moke bareke ya mu gaari" (you will go to the barracks to take cassava flakes). This was a common statement then because when the government arrest your little child or ward roaming the street, such a child would be arrested and the parent will be  forced to take about 11cups of cassava flakes (Garri). Most parents will take this crying because its more than they can take and also because its uncomfortable

Over the years, the Nigerian Government has taken children welfare so lightly that under and under age kids now roam the street begging for alms, they now hawk along the highways and most of the VIP's plight this roads, they now do farming among so many hard labors. The bible praise the utilities of kids and does not expect them to be misused or abused.

I will say with all authority that it is stupid of parents to indulge their kids in selling at high ways. Most of this kids are only lucky to escape death as it happen almost every time. Poverty has led most parents into this but it is never an option to lure kids into such useless acts

I will not bore my readers with a long epistle but I want to take this medium to appeal to those in power and constituted authority to please stand up and fight for kids in this country.
Nigerian Kids are not idiots or fools. Please stop child abuse and get the best out of them
