THE WEEKEND OF SURPRISES:
FOOTBALL IS REAL MADNESS
Yes, football is madness. That was Sir Alex Ferguson's remark after his Manchester United won the 1999 champions league final against Bayern Muchen in the most dramatic manner. At the weekend, so many football fans were entertained to surprises but the most shocking was the humiliation of Leicester city at the hands of Manchester United and Chelsea at Arsenal
On a good day, Manchester United was suppose to beat Leicester but not in the manner at which it was executed. Leicester United is a team known for their defensive masterclass and, coordination, sacrifice and direct running but surprisingly a rampaging Manchester United mesmerized them by scoring four goals in the first 45minutes of the game. The funniest of the show was three of those goals coming from corner kicks. I'm reserved on this but i will always question myself whether or not Leicester, the team that won the league last year have turned back to be the Leicester that fights against relegation or that teams are starting to play against them like they should. That remains to be seen though
Other surprise of the EPL was the humiliation of Chelsea at the hands of Arsenal. Well, i was expecting a cracker but i must admit that Antonio Conte was not tactically sound in the game. A lot of errors were evident in the game. Playing Cesc Fabregas out of position is pure madness. I repeat that it was a pure loius Van Gal game. Fabregas has over the years been a successful number 8. Games where he has played behind the strikers he has always failed. Another error was he defensive line where there was no coordination of a sort. Therry is out for real but that duty of coordinating the defense should have been giving to Cahil and not Luis David. Matic was another error in the game that i still cant understand why he keeps playing 90mins of football.
Antonio Conte should realise you dont necessarily need two destroyers at Chelsea to win games. Kante is good enough to do the screening of the defensive line.
Real Madrid was again shocked but as far as this will go, fingers are crossed and time shall tell us that.
